Äkäslompolo is a small fell village in Kolari municipality, in the heart of Finnish Lapland, situated beside Lake Äkäslompolo and surrounded by the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park — Finland's third largest. The area is best known as a gateway to Ylläs, the country's largest ski resort by slope count, making it a popular winter destination for skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing. Beyond the slopes, travellers come for husky safaris, reindeer experiences, and the chance to witness the Northern Lights. In summer, the national park draws hikers and cyclists drawn to its vast Arctic wilderness, pristine trails, and near-midnight sun.

Missions

Nobody's posted a Mission for Akaslompolo, Finnish Lapland yet — which, frankly, is an opportunity.

Wait, what's a Mission? It's not a scheduled trip with dates and a minimum group size like a Departure — it's a goal. Learn to dive, do a Muay Thai camp, live somewhere for a month and work on something, chase one very specific experience. Post it, and other people chasing the same thing find you.

Be the first to post one: "Learn the first 20 seconds of a local dance, then perform it, uninvited, at every bar you visit."
