The area is renowned for its populations of Bengal tigers, Indian elephants, gaur, leopards, and over 300 bird species. Note: jungle safaris in Bandipur and Mudumalai are run by the state forest departments and must be booked online or at the gate; book early in peak season (Oct–Mar) as jeeps sell out days ahead. Also note the parks close for the monsoon and for annual fire-line work, so check the forest department notices before you build your dates around them.
