The Cordillera Huayhuash is a compact but dramatic mountain range in the Andes of central Peru, home to Yerupajá — the second-highest peak in the Americas at 6,635 m. Despite its relatively small size, it contains six peaks above 6,000 metres and some of the most technically challenging alpine terrain on the continent. The range is world-famous among trekkers for the Huayhuash Circuit, a multi-day high-altitude route that winds through remote valleys, turquoise glacial lakes, and high passes above 5,000 m. Its raw, untouched landscape and demanding conditions draw serious hikers, mountaineers, and wilderness adventurers from around the globe.
