Self-Launched East Africa Overland: Nairobi to Dar es Salaam via Uganda, Rwanda & Zanzibar

A self-launched version of Oasis Overland's 34-day Nairobi–Dar es Salaam expedition, rebuilt for independent travellers using matatus, buses, shared taxis and budget guesthouses instead of a group overland truck. You'll still hit the Masai Mara, Jinja, Queen Elizabeth NP, Lake Bunyonyi, Kigali, Musanze, Sipi Falls, the Serengeti/Ngorongoro and Zanzibar — but you book your own permits, join local day tours via GetYourGuide, Klook or directly with park operators, and travel the same routes public transport uses every day. Costs are approximate backpacker rates in GBP and assume shared dorms/budget doubles, self-catering where possible, and a mix of included and optional big-ticket activities. Primate permits (gorilla ~£750, chimps ~£130, golden monkeys ~£155) are the same wherever you book them — budget them separately if you want them.
