It is a dormant stratovolcano made up of three volcanic cones — Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira — and sits within Kilimanjaro National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The mountain draws tens of thousands of trekkers each year, all aiming for the Uhuru Peak summit via routes such as the Machame, Lemosho, or Marangu trails. Its dramatic climb through five distinct ecological zones — from rainforest to arctic glacier — makes it one of the most iconic and accessible high-altitude challenges in the world.
