The region's valleys — Skardu, Shigar, Khaplu, Gilgit, and Hunza — sit at the crossroads of the Karakoram, Hindukush, and Himalayan ranges, attracting trekkers, climbers, and adventurers chasing routes like the Baltoro Glacier and Snow Lake. Beyond the mountains, travellers come for ancient Silk Road forts, apricot-blossom seasons, high-altitude lakes such as Attabad and Sheosar, and the warm hospitality of Balti and Burusho communities. The Karakoram Highway, one of the highest paved roads in the world, links many of these valleys and is a legendary journey in itself.
