Instead of a group cruise on the Amatista, you fly independently to Iquitos and join a small-group or shared budget riverboat/lodge expedition into the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve — many Iquitos operators run 4–6 night reserve cruises with naturalist guides, skiff excursions, community and shaman visits, and manatee rescue centre stops at a fraction of the group-tour price.
