Peaks & Lakes of the Pirin and Rila Mountains — Self-Launched

An 8-day self-launched version of Traventuria's guided Bansko–Rila trekking circuit, done independently using Bulgarian buses, shared shuttles and mountain chairlifts. You'll base yourself in Bansko for the Pirin classic summits (Polezhan, Vihren via Golem Kazan) and the Banderishki Lakes cirque, then move east to Govedartsi/Panichishte for the Seven Rila Lakes, Musala (2,925m) and Rila Monastery. Trails are waymarked and well mapped (Bulgarian topographic maps + offline GPX), so no guide is essential if you're comfortable with big mountain days of 6–8 hours. Costs are approximate backpacker/guesthouse rates for a shared twin/double or dorm; single travellers will pay a bit more in guesthouses.
