The Retezat Mountains form one of Romania's oldest and most pristine national parks, located in the southwestern Carpathians in Hunedoara County. The range is home to over 80 glacial lakes, including the iconic Bucura Lake — the largest glacial lake in Romania — as well as peaks exceeding 2,500 metres, with Peleaga standing as the highest at 2,509 m.
