A DIY version of National Geographic Expeditions' 15-day "National Parks of the American West" journey with G Adventures — covering Zion, Bryce Canyon, Page/Antelope Canyon, Grand Canyon, Death Valley, Sequoia, Kings Canyon, Yosemite and San Francisco. Instead of a guided 13-seat van and upgraded lodges, you'll stitch the route together with intercity buses (FlixBus, Greyhound), Amtrak, self-booked Antelope Canyon and stargazing tours, and public shuttle systems inside the parks. You'll need to hire a car for a couple of the harder-to-reach legs (Death Valley and Sequoia/Kings Canyon), but the overall cost lands at roughly a third of the operator price if you camp or stay in hostels and motels.
