It is home to the Tambopata National Reserve, a vast protected area spanning over 270,000 hectares of pristine jungle, oxbow lakes, and river systems. The region is renowned for its extraordinary wildlife — including giant river otters, macaws, tapirs, caimans, and hundreds of bird species — as well as the famous Colpa de Guacamayos (macaw clay lick) at Chuncho.
