Upper Mustang, Nepal

1 itinerary · 0 open departures · 0 missions

Upper Mustang is a remote, high-altitude region in northern Nepal, bordering Tibet, and was a restricted area closed to outsiders until 1992. Often called the "Last Forbidden Kingdom," it preserves the ancient Tibetan Buddhist kingdom of Lo, with its walled capital Lo Manthang, centuries-old monasteries, and cave dwellings carved into dramatic ochre cliffs. The landscape is strikingly arid — a rain-shadow desert of eroded canyons, mani walls, and wind-sculpted badlands sitting above 3,800 metres. Trekkers and cultural travellers come here for one of Nepal's most off-the-beaten-path Himalayan journeys, drawn by its extraordinary preservation of Tibetan culture, art, and architecture largely untouched by modernisation.

Missions

Nobody's posted a Mission for Upper Mustang, Nepal yet — which, frankly, is an opportunity.

Wait, what's a Mission? It's not a scheduled trip with dates and a minimum group size like a Departure — it's a goal. Learn to dive, do a Muay Thai camp, live somewhere for a month and work on something, chase one very specific experience. Post it, and other people chasing the same thing find you.

Be the first to post one: "Find the most locally-hated tourist trap and go anyway, unironically, in a costume."
