No-markup version: ~£352 per person

Estimate only, not a guaranteed price. Always verify costs independently before booking.

A DIY version of G Adventures' 7-day 18-to-Thirtysomethings run from Tirana down the Albanian Riviera and across to Corfu. You'll do the same route and hit the same beats — a cooking class in Tirana, Krujë castle, Berat's "town of a thousand windows", a shepherd lunch hike above Tragjas, beaches in Himarë and a ferry to Corfu — but you book it all yourself using local buses, furgons, hostels and GetYourGuide/direct-booking activities. Costs are approximate backpacker rates in GBP and assume you share a dorm or twin.

Day-by-day

Day 1

Arrive in Tirana & orientation wander

Tirana, Albania

Fly into Tirana (TIA) and take the Rinas Express airport bus to Skanderbeg Square (~300 lek / £2.50, roughly 30-40 mins). Check into a central hostel or budget guesthouse in the Blloku or Qendër area. In the late afternoon do your own orientation loop: Skanderbeg Square, the Et'hem Bey Mosque with its clock tower, the Pyramid and the colourful painted facades along Rruga Murat Toptani. Grab a cheap byrek and a coffee, then dinner at a traditional tavërna in Blloku (tavë kosi or fërgesë, ~£5-8). No fixed plan needed — just get your bearings.

Tirana, Albania

Book a small-group Albanian cooking class through GetYourGuide or a local operator (searchable as 'Tirana cooking class', typically £25-35 for 3-4 hours including lunch — look for ones that visit the New Bazaar for ingredients). You'll make dishes like byrek, tavë kosi and qofte, and eat the results for lunch. In the afternoon visit Bunk'Art 1 or Bunk'Art 2 (entry ~£5 each, the underground nuclear bunkers turned museums) or the National History Museum. Evening free — try the craft beer bars around Blloku.

Krujë & Berat, Albania

Take an early furgon (shared minibus) or bus from Tirana's North/South bus terminal to Krujë, about 1 hour (~200-300 lek / £2-3). Spend 2-3 hours walking the old bazaar — one of Albania's oldest — and climbing up to Krujë Castle and the Skanderbeg Museum (£3). Then continue by bus/furgon back through Tirana or direct connections down to Berat (total ~3-4 hours, ~£5-7). Check into a guesthouse in the Mangalem or Gorica quarter. In the late afternoon walk up to Berat Castle, still inhabited, for sunset over the 'town of a thousand windows' (free, or £1-2 if a museum inside is open). Dinner at a family guesthouse — try the local wines.

Take a morning bus from Berat to Vlorë (~2.5 hours, ~£5). The Vjosë-Nartë Delta Protected Area is just north of Vlorë — reachable by local bus towards Nartë plus a walk, or a cheap taxi (~£8). Look for the 13th-century Byzantine monastery of Shën Mëri and the lagoon birdlife. In the afternoon head to the village of Tragjas, where local families run shepherd-outpost hikes (ask your Himarë or Vlorë guesthouse, or arrange direct with a Tragjas agrotourism family — expect ~£20-25 including a homemade lunch of cheese, lamb, bread and raki). Alternatively, contact a small local operator via GetYourGuide for a 'Tragjas shepherd hike'. Afterwards continue by bus or furgon to Himarë (~45 mins, ~£2), check into a beachside guesthouse and walk the old town and castle hill in the evening.

Take the morning bus down the coast from Himarë to Sarandë (~1.5 hours, ~£3). If time allows, wander Sarandë's promenade and the ruins of Butrint (bus from Sarandë ~30 mins, entry ~£8) — worth it if you catch an afternoon ferry instead. Book your ferry in advance with Ionian Seaways or Finikas Lines (Sarandë–Corfu, ~30-90 mins, around £20-25 one way; bring your passport for the Greek border check). On arrival in Corfu Town, take local bus No. 2 or a short walk to your hostel in the old town. Frequently asked questions

How much does Tirana to Corfu: Ancient Towns & the Albanian Riviera — Self-Launched cost?+

Doing it yourself with this self-launched itinerary costs an estimated £352 per person for 7 days in Albania & Corfu (Greece). This is an AI-generated estimate based on typical budget-traveller prices — actual costs will vary by season and how you book.

Is this cheaper than booking with G Adventures?+

Yes — G Adventures charges around £1,010 per person for a similar tour. Doing the same route independently, using the same standard of accommodation and activities, costs an estimated £352 — a saving of roughly £658 (65%) per person.

How long is the Albania & Corfu (Greece) trip?+

This itinerary runs 7 days, covering 7 day-by-day stops through Albania & Corfu (Greece).

How do I join this trip?+

You can join an existing open departure using this itinerary if one is scheduled, or launch your own departure with your own dates and invite other travellers to join you — no tour operator required.

Isn't it easier to just use a tour operator?+

Well, yes, a tour operator will book all the individual parts of your travel for you and provide a guide. That's obvious, but doing this has the potential to save the group thousands, which can in turn improve your itinerary substantially or save you huge amounts of money. Also, when you launch a departure, Travel Crew has tools in place to help you book the individual sections of the trip or make it easier for you to do this as a group. Really, you do not need a middle man. If you are more comfortable paying more and using a middle man, then you should certainly do this.

Is it safer to book through a tour operator?+

Arguably, there isn't much difference. A self-launched trip runs on the same principle as a group travel crew: collective responsibility, everyone looking out for each other, the same way it would if a group of friends organised the trip themselves — because that's exactly what's happening. You should always take out travel insurance before you go, self-launched or not; that doesn't change either way. Every open departure is published publicly with real dates and a real trip organiser, so it's never an anonymous arrangement, and our support team is reachable any time you need help, including in an emergency while you're away. Longer-term, we're building direct relationships with ground DMCs in popular destinations, offered as an optional paid add-on for extra on-the-ground support. Ultimately, though, the group is responsible for its own conduct and safety on a self-launched trip, same as on any trip you plan yourself.

What kind of trip is this?+

This is a budget, backpacker, beaches trip through Albania & Corfu (Greece), self-launched rather than run by a tour operator — you organise it with a group you find or bring yourself.
