Explore! charges £1,280

£850saved per person (66%)

No-markup version: ~£430 per person

Estimate only, not a guaranteed price. Always verify costs independently before booking.

A self-launched version of Explore!'s 8-day northern Corfu Trail walk, from Liapades in the west to Corfu Town in the east. You follow the same waymarked trail stages (Liapades–Agios Georgios, Pagi–Rekini, Valanio–Spartillas, Pantokrator–Palia Perithia) on your own, using the Corfu Trail waymarks and free GPX maps, local KTEL buses and shared taxis between trailheads. Rooms are simple family-run guesthouses and tavernas with rooms rather than 3* tour hotels, and the group dinner, guide and chartered transfers are replaced by independent bookings. Costs are approximate backpacker/budget rates in GBP per person and exclude flights.

Day-by-day

Day 1

Arrive in Liapades

Liapades

Fly into Corfu (CFU) and take the local No. 11 or 15 bus or a 25-minute taxi to Liapades village (~£18-25 for a taxi, ~£2 by bus plus a walk). Check into a village guesthouse or studio in Paleokastritsa/Liapades. In the late afternoon, walk the 25 minutes down to Liapades and Rovinia beaches for a swim — Rovinia is a pebbly cove reached by a rough path, so bring shoes. Buy a picnic lunch and 2-3 litres of water for tomorrow, then eat at a village taverna (a €15-20 dinner with wine). Download the Corfu Trail GPX route (free from corfutrail.com) and study tomorrow's stage.

Day 2

Liapades to Agios Georgios via Lakones and the Donkey Path

Agios Georgios (NW Corfu)

The classic stage: climb from Liapades up to Lakones and Bella Vista for the big west-coast viewpoint, then on through Vistonas, Makrades and Krini before dropping via the old stone Donkey Path down to Agios Georgios bay. Roughly 14-16 km with 600 m of ascent, 5-6 hours. Waymarks are yellow-and-black Corfu Trail flashes plus occasional red/white; carry the GPX as backup. Lunch in Makrades or Krini (small tavernas, ~£8-10). At Agios Georgios, check into a beachside guesthouse or rooms above a taverna and swim before dinner. Note: there is no luggage transfer — plan to carry a small pack or use a local taxi to move a bag (~£20).

Pagi has the best coffee stop. Finish at Rekini, then take the KTEL Green bus (or a shared taxi, ~£4-6 pp) north along the coast to Roda. Roda is a low-key beach resort — plenty of cheap studios and rooms; book ahead in high season, walk-ups are fine in shoulder season.

Lunch/coffee in Sokraki. From Spartillas take the local KTEL bus or a taxi (~£8-12 shared) down to Kalami on the east coast. Kalami has a handful of rooms and tavernas — book a family-run guesthouse near the bay. Frequently asked questions

How much does Walking the Corfu Trail (North) — Self-Launched cost?+

Doing it yourself with this self-launched itinerary costs an estimated £430 per person for 8 days in Corfu, Greece. This is an AI-generated estimate based on typical budget-traveller prices — actual costs will vary by season and how you book.

Is this cheaper than booking with Explore!?+

Yes — Explore! charges around £1,280 per person for a similar tour. Doing the same route independently, using the same standard of accommodation and activities, costs an estimated £430 — a saving of roughly £850 (66%) per person.

How long is the Corfu, Greece trip?+

This itinerary runs 8 days, covering 8 day-by-day stops through Corfu, Greece.

How do I join this trip?+

You can join an existing open departure using this itinerary if one is scheduled, or launch your own departure with your own dates and invite other travellers to join you — no tour operator required.

Isn't it easier to just use a tour operator?+

Well, yes, a tour operator will book all the individual parts of your travel for you and provide a guide. That's obvious, but doing this has the potential to save the group thousands, which can in turn improve your itinerary substantially or save you huge amounts of money. Also, when you launch a departure, Travel Crew has tools in place to help you book the individual sections of the trip or make it easier for you to do this as a group. Really, you do not need a middle man. If you are more comfortable paying more and using a middle man, then you should certainly do this.

Is it safer to book through a tour operator?+

Arguably, there isn't much difference. A self-launched trip runs on the same principle as a group travel crew: collective responsibility, everyone looking out for each other, the same way it would if a group of friends organised the trip themselves — because that's exactly what's happening. You should always take out travel insurance before you go, self-launched or not; that doesn't change either way. Every open departure is published publicly with real dates and a real trip organiser, so it's never an anonymous arrangement, and our support team is reachable any time you need help, including in an emergency while you're away. Longer-term, we're building direct relationships with ground DMCs in popular destinations, offered as an optional paid add-on for extra on-the-ground support. Ultimately, though, the group is responsible for its own conduct and safety on a self-launched trip, same as on any trip you plan yourself.

What kind of trip is this?+

This is a hiking, adventure, beaches trip through Corfu, Greece, self-launched rather than run by a tour operator — you organise it with a group you find or bring yourself.
