G Adventures charges £3,100

No-markup version: ~£895 per person

Estimate only, not a guaranteed price. Always verify costs independently before booking.

A self-launched version of G Adventures' 9-day Geluxe Dalmatian Coast trip, running from Dubrovnik to Trogir via Korčula, Hvar and Split. Instead of private vehicles and a tour leader, you'll use Croatia's excellent network of Jadrolinija/Krilo catamarans and hydrofoils, public buses, and self-booked kayak, boat-tour and national-park excursions. You'll stay in centrally located hostels and family-run guesthouses rather than resort hotels, eat at konobas and bakeries instead of included group dinners, and hike Krka's Skradinski Buk waterfall independently. Expect roughly £80-110 per day including accommodation, food, transport and activities.

Day-by-day

Day 1

Arrive Dubrovnik — Old Town at Golden Hour

Dubrovnik

Fly into Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) and take the Atlas/Kliber shuttle bus to the main gate at Pile (around €10/£9, 35 min) rather than a private transfer. Check into a hostel or guesthouse inside or just outside the Old Town walls (Hostel Angelina, Villa Allure or similar). Spend the late afternoon walking the Stradun and the narrow side alleys, then climb to a viewpoint or grab sunset drinks on the Buža cliff bar. Self-guided evening stroll replaces the group welcome meeting and dinner.

🚌Airport shuttle bus to Pile gate, ~£9

🛏Hostel or guesthouse in/near Old Town, private or 4-bed dorm (£30)

  • →Self-guided Old Town orientation walk
  • →Stradun & Buža cliff bar sunset
  • →Optional: Dubrovnik City Walls walk (€40) — best done early morning next day
~£68
Day 2

Dubrovnik from Below and Above

Dubrovnik

Book a 3-hour sea kayaking tour around the city walls with a local operator (Adriatic Kayak Tours, Dubrovnik Kayak, or a GetYourGuide listing — around €40-50/£35-43) — same route as the group trip's included kayak: paddle below the walls, into Betina cave, with a swim/snorkel stop on Lokrum-facing beaches. In the afternoon ride the Srđ cable car (€27 return, or hike up free in ~45 min) for the classic aerial view, and pop into the War Photo Limited museum (€10).

🚌Walking; cable car €27 (~£23)

🛏Hostel or guesthouse, Old Town (£30)

  • →Guided sea kayak tour around the walls (~£40)
  • →Mount Srđ cable car (~£23)
  • →War Photo Limited museum (~£9)
~£118
Day 3

Dubrovnik Morning, Then Ferry to Korčula

Korčula

Get an early start: either walk the full city walls circuit (€40, ~1.5 hrs, do it by 8am to dodge crowds and heat) or take the local bus to Banje beach for a swim. Early afternoon, catch the Krilo catamaran or Jadrolinija ferry from Dubrovnik to Korčula (around €20-25/£17-22, 2-2.5 hrs; book online a few days ahead in summer). Arrive in Korčula Town, check into a guesthouse in or just outside the walled peninsula, and do a self-guided wander of the fishbone-shaped old town — Marco Polo's supposed birthplace, St Mark's Cathedral, and the waterfront. Dinner at a konoba (Croatian tavern).

🚌Krilo catamaran Dubrovnik–Korčula, ~£20

🛏Guesthouse or hostel in Korčula Town (£30)

  • →Dubrovnik city walls walk (€40) or Banje beach
  • →Self-guided Korčula old town walk
  • →Konoba dinner
~£105
Day 4

Korčula: Your Own Day — Bike, Hike or Wine

Korčula

The group version includes a choice of biking or hiking plus tastings; do the same independently. Rent a bike from a local shop in Korčula Town (~€20-25/day) and ride the quiet coastal road toward Lumbarda and its sandy beaches, or head west toward Pupnatska Luka. Alternatively hike the ridge trails around Žrnovo village (free, 2-3 hrs). Add a short visit to a Lumbarda winery for a glass of grk white (€10-15) or an olive-oil tasting. Evening: swim at a rocky beach on the town's edge.

🚌Bike rental ~£18

🛏Guesthouse or hostel in Korčula Town (£30)

  • →Bike rental and Lumbarda coastal ride
  • →Optional winery tasting (~£12)
  • →Beach swim
~£82
Day 5

Korčula to Hvar — Island Life

Hvar

Take the morning catamaran or ferry onward to Hvar (Krilo/Jadrolinija, around €15-20/£13-17, 1-1.5 hrs, usually via a stop or direct in summer — check schedules). Check into a hostel or guesthouse in Hvar Town (Hostel Marinero, Guesthouse Ana or similar) — book well ahead, Hvar Town is pricey in summer. Afternoon: self-guided walk up to the Spanish Fortress (€10) for views over the Pakleni Islands, wander the marble-paved main square and St Stephen's Cathedral, then swim off the rocks past the Franciscan monastery.

🚌Catamaran Korčula–Hvar, ~£15

🛏Hostel or guesthouse, Hvar Town (£35)

  • →Spanish Fortress walk (€10)
  • →Self-guided Hvar Town walk
  • →Rock-beach swim
~£95
Day 6

Hvar: Pakleni Islands by Boat

Hvar

Replicate the private-boat day with a shared Pakleni Islands boat tour or water taxi. Cheapest option: the public taxi boat from Hvar harbour to Palmižana (around €10-15 return, frequent in season) — then walk the island trails, swim at secluded coves and have lunch at a beach restaurant. For the full "hidden coves + snorkelling" experience, a small-group speedboat day trip runs €50-70/£43-60 (GetYourGuide, Klook or direct with local operators at the harbour) and typically includes 4-5 stops, swimming and snorkel gear.

🚌Taxi boat to Palmižana ~£12 (or small-group boat tour ~£50)

🛏Hostel or guesthouse, Hvar Town (£35)

  • →Pakleni Islands boat day
  • →Hiking Palmižana trails
  • →Snorkelling and swimming
~£105
Day 7

Hvar to Split via Catamaran — Split Old Town

Split

Morning catamaran from Hvar to Split (Krilo or Jadrolinija, ~€15-20/£13-17, 1-1.5 hrs). Drop bags at a hostel in or near the old town (Hostel Split Backpackers, CroParadise or similar), then explore Diocletian's Palace independently — free to wander the cellars (€8 optional) and the peristyle, or join a free/pay-what-you-want walking tour from the Riva promenade (tip ~€10-15). Later, take the local bus or the short bus ride north to Trogir (about 30-45 min, €4-5) and check into a guesthouse there, or base yourself in Split and day-trip — Trogir is quieter and cheaper.

🚌Catamaran Hvar–Split ~£15 + local bus to Trogir ~£4

🛏Guesthouse in Trogir or Split old town (£30)

  • →Diocletian's Palace self-guided walk
  • →Free walking tour of Split (tip-based)
  • →Riva promenade evening
~£92
Day 8

Krka National Park Waterfalls & Šibenik

Trogir

Hike Krka National Park independently. Take a bus from Trogir to Šibenik (around €7-8, ~1 hr), then a local bus or shuttle to Lozovac or Skradin (€3-5). Buy the park ticket at the gate (seasonal, roughly €20-40 depending on month — cheaper outside July/August). Walk the boardwalk loop from Skradin or Lozovac to Skradinski Buk, the huge travertine cascade, with plenty of time for photos and a swim where permitted. On the way back, stop in Šibenik to see St James's Cathedral (UNESCO) and the old lanes, then bus back to Trogir. Cheaper and more flexible than an organised day tour (which would cost €50-70).

🚌Bus Trogir–Šibenik–Lozovac/Skradin return, ~£22

🛏Guesthouse in Trogir (£30)

  • →Krka National Park entry (~£25)
  • →Skradinski Buk boardwalk hike
  • →Šibenik St James's Cathedral and old town
~£105
Day 9

Trogir Morning, Departure

Trogir

Spend the morning wandering tiny, UNESCO-listed Trogir island — the Cathedral of St Lawrence, the Kamerlengo fortress walls (€5) and the seafront promenade — a relaxed self-launched finish versus the group's farewell dinner the night before. Then take a local bus or airport shuttle to Split Airport (SPU; 15 min from Trogir, €5-10) or onward transport as needed. Split Airport is ~30 min from Trogir and ~45 min from Split.

🚌Local bus or shuttle to Split Airport, ~£7

🛏None (departure day)

  • →Trogir old town and cathedral walk
  • →Kamerlengo fortress (€5)
~£25

Frequently asked questions

How much does Croatia: Walking & Island-Hopping Along the Dalmatian Coast — Self-Launched cost?+

Doing it yourself with this self-launched itinerary costs an estimated £895 per person for 9 days in Croatia. This is an AI-generated estimate based on typical budget-traveller prices — actual costs will vary by season and how you book.

Is this cheaper than booking with G Adventures?+

Yes — G Adventures charges around £3,100 per person for a similar tour. Doing the same route independently, using the same standard of accommodation and activities, costs an estimated £895 — a saving of roughly £2,205 (71%) per person.

How long is the Croatia trip?+

This itinerary runs 9 days, covering 9 day-by-day stops through Croatia.

How do I join this trip?+

You can join an existing open departure using this itinerary if one is scheduled, or launch your own departure with your own dates and invite other travellers to join you — no tour operator required.

Isn't it easier to just use a tour operator?+

Well, yes, a tour operator will book all the individual parts of your travel for you and provide a guide. That's obvious, but doing this has the potential to save the group thousands, which can in turn improve your itinerary substantially or save you huge amounts of money. Also, when you launch a departure, Travel Crew has tools in place to help you book the individual sections of the trip or make it easier for you to do this as a group. Really, you do not need a middle man. If you are more comfortable paying more and using a middle man, then you should certainly do this.

Is it safer to book through a tour operator?+

Arguably, there isn't much difference. A self-launched trip runs on the same principle as a group travel crew: collective responsibility, everyone looking out for each other, the same way it would if a group of friends organised the trip themselves — because that's exactly what's happening. You should always take out travel insurance before you go, self-launched or not; that doesn't change either way. Every open departure is published publicly with real dates and a real trip organiser, so it's never an anonymous arrangement, and our support team is reachable any time you need help, including in an emergency while you're away. Longer-term, we're building direct relationships with ground DMCs in popular destinations, offered as an optional paid add-on for extra on-the-ground support. Ultimately, though, the group is responsible for its own conduct and safety on a self-launched trip, same as on any trip you plan yourself.

What kind of trip is this?+

This is a adventure, culture, hiking trip through Croatia, self-launched rather than run by a tour operator — you organise it with a group you find or bring yourself.
