After a safety briefing at the UWA ranger station, you are assigned to a habituated gorilla family group and trek with a UWA ranger through the dense jungle. Expect 3–6 hours of hiking on steep, muddy terrain for a breathtaking one-hour encounter with mountain gorillas. Hiring a local porter is highly recommended (~£10–15) — they carry your bag and provide stability on the slopes, and the income directly supports the local community.
