Estimate only, not a guaranteed price. Always verify costs independently before booking.

A self-launched version of Much Better Adventures' 6-night sea kayaking and wild camping expedition along Turkey's Aegean/Lycian coast. Base yourself in the ghost village of Kayaköy near Fethiye, then hire a sea kayak locally (or join a small launch-based day-group) to island-hop between Tavşan, Sövalye and Kızıl Ada, round the İblis Peninsula, explore St Nicholas Island and the ancient harbour ruins, and cross the Seven Capes to 7-mile Patara Beach. You'll wild camp on remote beaches under the stars and finish back at a Kayaköy guesthouse. Same coast, same paddling, a fraction of the price — ideal for a fit solo gap-year or backpacker traveller. Costs are approximate and exclude flights.

Day-by-day

Day 1

Arrive Dalaman & settle into Kayaköy ghost village

Kayaköy / Fethiye

Fly into Dalaman (DLM) — direct flights from the UK/Europe are frequent and often cheap if booked early. Take the Havaş shuttle bus or a shared minibus (dolmuş) from the airport to Fethiye (~£5-8, 1hr), then a local dolmuş up to Kayaköy (~£1). Check into a budget guesthouse or pension in the village (many family-run pansiyons, ~£15-20/night twin share). In the late afternoon, wander the abandoned stone houses of Levissi/Kayaköy, the Greek ghost village from 'Birds Without Wings' (free to walk, small ticket for the museum house). Get dinner in Kayaköy or back down in Fethiye harbour, and prepare your kit for paddling.

🚌Dalaman Airport to Fethiye by Havaş shuttle (~£5-8), then dolmuş to Kayaköy (~£1)

🛏Kayaköy pansiyon / budget guesthouse, twin share (approx £15-20 pp)

  • →Explore Kayaköy ghost village
  • →Fethiye harbour evening stroll
  • →Kit check and trip planning
~£55
Day 2

Launch from Karaot Beach — island hopping to your first wild camp

Tavşan, Sövalye & Kızıl Ada / Aquarium Bay

Eat a big Turkish breakfast then head to Karaot Beach near Ölüdeniz/Fethiye where local kayak operators launch. Hire a single sea kayak with paddles, PFD and dry bags from a Fethiye kayak outfitter, or join a small one-day guided launch (~£40-55). Paddle island to island, crossing between Tavşan, Sövalye and Kızıl Ada, stopping for lunch under the lighthouse. Continue to Aquarium Bay for a swim, then set up your first wild camp on a secluded beach. Bring a sleeping bag (or hire one for ~£25) — the operator's kit hire is otherwise expensive, so pack light and shop food in Fethiye (market: ~£8-10/day of mezze, bread, pasta, tuna, fruit).

🚌Dolmuş/shuttle Kayaköy to Karaot Beach launch point (~£3-5); kayak for the day

🛏Wild camping on a secluded beach, twin-share tent (no facilities)

İblis Cape & İblis Bay

Wake early and tuck into Turkish breakfast on the beach, then paddle along several secluded coves until the imposing cliffs of İblis Cape. Explore a hidden sea cave, stop for lunch and snorkelling (bring or hire a snorkel/mask set — hiring locally runs ~£10-15 vs the operator's $19). Paddle on to İblis Bay for your second wild camp and enjoy a sunset swim before settling in under the stars. Remember wild-camping rules: biodegradable soap, no litter, dig-and-pack-out toilet etiquette.

🛏Wild camping on İblis Bay beach, twin-share tent

  • →Kayak around İblis Cape cliffs
  • →Explore a hidden sea cave

Day 4

St Nicholas Island, ancient harbours and monasteries

Aquarium Bay & St Nicholas (Gemiler) Island

Kayak south towards Aquarium Bay and pause for refreshments on the ruins of an ancient harbour, then jump in for more swimming and snorkelling in crystal water. Stop at a remote shoreside restaurant en route for lunch or drinks (budget ~£10). Continue to Karacaören and St Nicholas (Gemiler) Island — paddle past secluded coves and monastery ruins dating to c.500 BC, visit caves and rock-hop to a camping spot beside a blue cave. This is a highlight day for the history, easily matched by doing the route independently at your own pace rather than paying for a guide.

🚌Sea kayak; optional short walk on the island

🛏Wild camping beside a blue cave / St Nicholas Island area, twin-share tent

  • →Ancient harbour ruins stop
  • →Snorkelling at Aquarium Bay
  • →Paddle to St Nicholas Island

Day 5

The Lycian Way from the water — Blue Cave to Kalabantia

Blue Cave, Kalabantia & first of the Seven Capes

This is a big day (~14 miles): kayak along the world-famous Lycian Way trail seen from the sea, starting at Blue Cave — one of Turkey's most stunning locations, flanked by rocky mountains. Visit a secluded cove and take a short hike up to the ruins of the ancient Lycian city of Kalabantia. Later you'll cross the first of the Seven Capes and reach your last camping spot. Keep an eye out for sea turtles in the shallows. Pace yourself, hydrate, and pack plenty of snacks from Fethiye.

Day 6

Cross the Seven Capes to Patara Beach — back to Kayaköy

Seven Capes & Patara Beach

The most challenging and exciting day: cross the remaining six capes one by one, following beautiful shores and steep mountain walls. Duck into hidden caves and secluded bays all the way to Patara, a stunning 7-mile sandy beach at the end of the route. Finish in the afternoon on the shores of the Karasu River, then arrange a local dolmuş or shared taxi back to Kayaköy (~£6-10). Check back into your guesthouse, shower, and celebrate with a big dinner in the village.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Sea Kayak & Wild Camp Turkey's Seven Capes (Self-Launched) cost?+

Doing it yourself with this self-launched itinerary costs an estimated £640 per person for 7 days in Lycian Coast, Turkey. This is an AI-generated estimate based on typical budget-traveller prices — actual costs will vary by season and how you book.

Is this cheaper than booking with Much Better Adventures?+

Yes — Much Better Adventures charges around £1,150 per person for a similar tour. Doing the same route independently, using the same standard of accommodation and activities, costs an estimated £640 — a saving of roughly £510 (44%) per person.

How long is the Lycian Coast, Turkey trip?+

This itinerary runs 7 days, covering 7 day-by-day stops through Lycian Coast, Turkey.

How do I join this trip?+

You can join an existing open departure using this itinerary if one is scheduled, or launch your own departure with your own dates and invite other travellers to join you — no tour operator required.

Isn't it easier to just use a tour operator?+

Well, yes, a tour operator will book all the individual parts of your travel for you and provide a guide. That's obvious, but doing this has the potential to save the group thousands, which can in turn improve your itinerary substantially or save you huge amounts of money. Also, when you launch a departure, Travel Crew has tools in place to help you book the individual sections of the trip or make it easier for you to do this as a group. Really, you do not need a middle man. If you are more comfortable paying more and using a middle man, then you should certainly do this.

Is it safer to book through a tour operator?+

Arguably, there isn't much difference. A self-launched trip runs on the same principle as a group travel crew: collective responsibility, everyone looking out for each other, the same way it would if a group of friends organised the trip themselves — because that's exactly what's happening. You should always take out travel insurance before you go, self-launched or not; that doesn't change either way. Every open departure is published publicly with real dates and a real trip organiser, so it's never an anonymous arrangement, and our support team is reachable any time you need help, including in an emergency while you're away. Longer-term, we're building direct relationships with ground DMCs in popular destinations, offered as an optional paid add-on for extra on-the-ground support. Ultimately, though, the group is responsible for its own conduct and safety on a self-launched trip, same as on any trip you plan yourself.

What kind of trip is this?+

This is a adventure, backpacker, gap-year trip through Lycian Coast, Turkey, self-launched rather than run by a tour operator — you organise it with a group you find or bring yourself.
