Morocco Social Impact Travels charges £1,445

£525saved per person (36%)

No-markup version: ~£920 per person

Estimate only, not a guaranteed price. Always verify costs independently before booking.

A self-launched version of Morocco Social Impact Travels' 11-day private cultural circuit — Marrakech, Essaouira, Casablanca, Rabat, Chefchaouen, Fes, the Merzouga Sahara, Todgha and Dades gorges and Ait Benhaddou — rebuilt on Morocco's excellent CTM/Supratours coach network, shared grand taxis and budget riads. You book each leg yourself: medina guides via GetYourGuide or the local guide associations, a two-night desert camp package direct with a Merzouga operator, and hammam/monument tickets on arrival. Costs are approximate per-person estimates for a solo traveller in shared dorm or budget double rooms; the original tour is priced per person in a private double and private single supplements push it higher.

Day-by-day

Day 1

Arrive Marrakech — medina orientation

Marrakech

Fly into Marrakech Menara (RAK), a 15-minute walk or 50 MAD (£4) petit taxi from the terminal to the medina gates. Check into a budget riad or medina hostel and spend the afternoon getting lost on purpose: Jemaa el-Fnaa at dusk, the spice souks and the tanning pits. Buy a local SIM (Orange/Inwi, ~£8 for 10GB) and set up the CTM and Supratours apps tonight — you'll book most onward coaches here.

Book Majorelle Garden + Berber Museum (150 MAD, timed entry — book online a day ahead, it sells out) and the Yves Saint Laurent Museum next door (100 MAD). If you want a guide, official medina guides are ~£30-40 for a half day via GetYourGuide or the kiosk at Jemaa el-Fnaa; a combined monument pass is easily self-managed.

The route via Chichaoua crosses the argan groves, so grab a window seat. Afternoon: walk the ramparts of the Skala, browse the port fish market and eat grilled sardines for a few pounds. Essaouira is windy and beautiful; beach time and a rooftop mint tea are the whole point.

Evening: Casablanca Corniche. Hassan II Mosque interior tours run mornings only (140 MAD) — save that for the next day or catch a late exterior visit.

In Rabat walk the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V (free) and the Oudayas Kasbah, mint tea at Café Maure overlooking the river. From Rabat Ville, trains run to Tangier (2h45, ~£14) and from Tangier a CTM coach or shared grand taxi to Chefchaouen (~2 hrs, ~60 MAD). It's a long day — if you want it gentler, overnight in Rabat and shift Chefchaouen to day 6 morning.

Afternoon CTM coach Chefchaouen–Fes (~4 hrs, ~120 MAD, £11), arriving before dark. Check into a riad in the Fes medina; note that some riads are deep in the car-free alleys, so arrange a meet-point with your host.

Day 7

Fes medina with a local guide, hammam in the evening

Fes

Fes el-Bali is the one medina you genuinely want a guide for — 9,000 alleys and no map. Book a licensed local guide via GetYourGuide (~£35-45 for a half-day, or ~200 MAD for a guided medina walk through your riad). Cover the Bou Inania and al-Attarine medersas (70 MAD each), the Chouara tanneries (small tip 20-50 MAD for the terrace viewpoint), Kairaouine mosque courtyard (non-Muslims at the doors only) and the Nejjarine fountain. Afternoon: a traditional hammam (Hammam Mernissi or a local bathhouse, 100-200 MAD). Finish at Café Clock.

Book direct with a Merzouga camp for the desert night: shared 2-night packages (camel ride in at sunset, Berber tent, tagine dinner, drums around the fire, sunrise camel out) run £55-80 per person including meals — book via GetYourGuide or by messaging the camp direct on WhatsApp for a better rate. Verify your coach arrives before the 4pm camel departure and ask the camp for a free pick-up from the bus stop.

From Tinghir, a local taxi to the Todgha Gorges for a short walk and a paddle in the river (60-80 MAD), then onward to Boumalne Dades and the Dades Gorges (taxi ~150 MAD). Frequently asked questions

How much does 11 Days Must-See Morocco: Self-Launched Grand Circuit from Marrakech cost?+

Doing it yourself with this self-launched itinerary costs an estimated £920 per person for 11 days in Morocco. This is an AI-generated estimate based on typical budget-traveller prices — actual costs will vary by season and how you book.

Is this cheaper than booking with Morocco Social Impact Travels?+

Yes — Morocco Social Impact Travels charges around £1,445 per person for a similar tour. Doing the same route independently, using the same standard of accommodation and activities, costs an estimated £920 — a saving of roughly £525 (36%) per person.

How long is the Morocco trip?+

This itinerary runs 11 days, covering 11 day-by-day stops through Morocco.

How do I join this trip?+

You can join an existing open departure using this itinerary if one is scheduled, or launch your own departure with your own dates and invite other travellers to join you — no tour operator required.

Isn't it easier to just use a tour operator?+

Well, yes, a tour operator will book all the individual parts of your travel for you and provide a guide. That's obvious, but doing this has the potential to save the group thousands, which can in turn improve your itinerary substantially or save you huge amounts of money. Also, when you launch a departure, Travel Crew has tools in place to help you book the individual sections of the trip or make it easier for you to do this as a group. Really, you do not need a middle man. If you are more comfortable paying more and using a middle man, then you should certainly do this.

Is it safer to book through a tour operator?+

Arguably, there isn't much difference. A self-launched trip runs on the same principle as a group travel crew: collective responsibility, everyone looking out for each other, the same way it would if a group of friends organised the trip themselves — because that's exactly what's happening. You should always take out travel insurance before you go, self-launched or not; that doesn't change either way. Every open departure is published publicly with real dates and a real trip organiser, so it's never an anonymous arrangement, and our support team is reachable any time you need help, including in an emergency while you're away. Longer-term, we're building direct relationships with ground DMCs in popular destinations, offered as an optional paid add-on for extra on-the-ground support. Ultimately, though, the group is responsible for its own conduct and safety on a self-launched trip, same as on any trip you plan yourself.

What kind of trip is this?+

This is a culture, adventure, backpacker trip through Morocco, self-launched rather than run by a tour operator — you organise it with a group you find or bring yourself.
