Morocco Luxury Tour charges £1,900

£1,200saved per person (63%)

No-markup version: ~£700 per person

Estimate only, not a guaranteed price. Always verify costs independently before booking.

A self-launched 10-day loop from Rabat/Casablanca through Chefchaouen, Fes, the Sahara and Marrakech. Instead of a private guided vehicle, you piece the route together with Morocco's excellent CTM/ Supratours coaches, shared grand taxis and an overnight desert camp booked direct. You get the same medinas, kasbahs, dunes and cooking class for a fraction of the £1,900-per-person tour price. Costs are approximate budget-backpacker estimates; Morocco is cheap to travel independently, but distances are long — book coach tickets a day or two ahead in high season.

Day-by-day

Day 1

Arrive Rabat — Chellah, Hassan Tower & the Kasbah

Rabat

Skip the Casablanca start and begin in Rabat, which is calmer and better connected. Drop your bag at a medina guesthouse and walk the Chellah Necropolis (£2), then the Yacoub al-Mansour Esplanade with the unfinished Hassan Tower and Kings' Mausoleum (free). Finish at the blue-and-white Kasbah des Oudayas and take mint tea at Cafe Maure overlooking the river (£1.50). Eat dinner in the medina — a tagine and bread runs about £6.

🛏Medina guesthouse / riad dorm or budget double, Rabat (~£20)

  • →Chellah Necropolis (£2)

Coach to Chefchaouen

Chefchaouen

Take the morning CTM or Supratours coach from Rabat to Chefchaouen (approx 4-4.5 hrs, ~£10-12). Book online or at the station the day before. Check into a blue-walled guesthouse in the medina, then wander the lanes on your own — the town is small enough that no guide is needed. Climb to the Spanish Mosque for sunset over the Rif mountains (free, 20 min uphill).

🛏Guesthouse in Chefchaouen medina (~£18)

Day 3

Chefchaouen Kasbah, waterfall & riverbank cafes

Chefchaouen

Pay the small entry to the 15th-century Kasbah and climb the tower for panoramic views over the blue roofs (£1). Walk to the town waterfall at Ras El Maa and cool your feet in the stream, then settle into a riverbank cafe for coffee and people-watching. In the evening, eat at a cheap local spot off Plaza Uta el-Hammam.

Day 4

Coach to Fes — medina orientation

Fes

Morning coach to Fes (approx 4 hrs, ~£10). Check in near Bab Boujloud and spend the afternoon getting lost in Fes el-Bali on your own terms — the tanneries, the medersas (Bou Inania is free-ish, ~£2 for others) and the Al Quaraouiyine area. If you want a licensed guide for the medina, a half-day official guide is ~£30-40 shared between a few travellers — book through your riad, and agree the price up front to avoid the hard-sell 'shopping visits' many group tours include.

🚌Coach Chefchaouen–Fes ~£10 (4 hrs)

🛏Riad/guesthouse near Bab Boujloud, Fes (~£20)

  • →Self-guided Fes el-Bali wander
  • →Bou Inania Medersa (£2)

Day 5

Fes medina deep-dive + hammam

Fes

Rooftop breakfast, then a slow morning in the medina: the Jewish quarter (Mellah), the Nejjarine woodwork museum and the pottery/tile workshops. In the afternoon, book a local hammam and scrub (~£8-12) — far cheaper than hotel spas. Evening: eat at a cheap grill house or join a street-food tasting walk if you want company (GetYourGuide Fes food tours from ~£25).

🚌On foot; petit taxi across town ~£1.50

🛏Riad/guesthouse, Fes (~£20)

Day 6

Fes → Merzouga: camel trek & Sahara camp

Merzouga / Erg Chebbi

This is the long day. Take the early CTM coach Fes–Merzouga (approx 9-10 hrs, ~£18) or, if you have a group of 4, a shared grand taxi/private transfer (~£30-40 each) is faster. Arrive late afternoon and your desert camp operator (booked direct or via GetYourGuide, ~£45-60 including camel ride, dinner, Berber music and tent) will meet you at the edge of the dunes for a camel caravan into Erg Chebbi at sunset. Dinner and drumming under the stars.

🚌CTM coach Fes–Merzouga ~£18 (9-10 hrs); camel trek included in camp package

🛏Desert camp tent, Erg Chebbi (~£50 including camel trek, dinner & breakfast)

~£75
Day 7

Sunrise dunes, Todra & Dades gorges, on to Ait Benhaddou

Ait Benhaddou / Ouarzazate

Wake for sunrise on the dunes and sandboard if the camp has boards. Rather than a private 4x4, join a shared minibus transfer along the Dadès and Todra gorges route (bookable via your camp or a Merzouga agency, ~£25-35 per person) or take a public bus Merzouga–Ouarzazate (~£12, 7 hrs) and stop for photos at the gorges. Overnight in a cheap guesthouse in Ait Benhaddou village with dinner included.

🚌Shared minibus Merzouga–Ait Benhaddou ~£30 (or public bus + taxi ~£15)

🛏Guesthouse in Ait Benhaddou village (~£20 with dinner)

Ait Benhaddou kasbah → Marrakech over the Tizi n'Tichka

Marrakech

Then take the shared grand taxi or CTM bus over the High Atlas via the Tizi n'Tichka pass to Marrakech (~£8-12, 4-5 hrs). Check into a medina hostel, then dive into Jemaa el-Fna at dusk — free, and the best evening show in Morocco.

Book a half-day cooking class direct or via GetYourGuide (~£30-35) — you'll shop in the souk and cook your own tagine, with almond-paste cookies for dessert, which is exactly what the tour does. Lunch on a spice-market terrace, then optional evening hammam (~£15).

Frequently asked questions

How much does Marrakech Marvels: Self-Launched Morocco Cultural Circuit cost?+

Doing it yourself with this self-launched itinerary costs an estimated £700 per person for 10 days in Morocco. This is an AI-generated estimate based on typical budget-traveller prices — actual costs will vary by season and how you book.

Is this cheaper than booking with Morocco Luxury Tour?+

Yes — Morocco Luxury Tour charges around £1,900 per person for a similar tour. Doing the same route independently, using the same standard of accommodation and activities, costs an estimated £700 — a saving of roughly £1,200 (63%) per person.

How long is the Morocco trip?+

This itinerary runs 10 days, covering 10 day-by-day stops through Morocco.

How do I join this trip?+

You can join an existing open departure using this itinerary if one is scheduled, or launch your own departure with your own dates and invite other travellers to join you — no tour operator required.

Isn't it easier to just use a tour operator?+

Well, yes, a tour operator will book all the individual parts of your travel for you and provide a guide. That's obvious, but doing this has the potential to save the group thousands, which can in turn improve your itinerary substantially or save you huge amounts of money. Also, when you launch a departure, Travel Crew has tools in place to help you book the individual sections of the trip or make it easier for you to do this as a group. Really, you do not need a middle man. If you are more comfortable paying more and using a middle man, then you should certainly do this.

Is it safer to book through a tour operator?+

Arguably, there isn't much difference. A self-launched trip runs on the same principle as a group travel crew: collective responsibility, everyone looking out for each other, the same way it would if a group of friends organised the trip themselves — because that's exactly what's happening. You should always take out travel insurance before you go, self-launched or not; that doesn't change either way. Every open departure is published publicly with real dates and a real trip organiser, so it's never an anonymous arrangement, and our support team is reachable any time you need help, including in an emergency while you're away. Longer-term, we're building direct relationships with ground DMCs in popular destinations, offered as an optional paid add-on for extra on-the-ground support. Ultimately, though, the group is responsible for its own conduct and safety on a self-launched trip, same as on any trip you plan yourself.

What kind of trip is this?+

This is a adventure, culture, backpacker trip through Morocco, self-launched rather than run by a tour operator — you organise it with a group you find or bring yourself.
