Peru Trek 4 Good

A self-launched, budget-friendly version of the classic La Paz → Uyuni route: high-altitude city wandering and cable cars, the pre-Inca ruins of Tiwanaku, an overnight bus to the salt flats, and a three-day 4x4 loop through the surreal altiplano lagoons to Laguna Colorada and Laguna Verde. Skip the group-tour markup by booking your own hostel, using local buses and joining locally-run Uyuni 4x4 tours (which include the driver, guide, meals and hostel nights). Costs are rough per-person estimates; Bolivia is cheap but Uyuni tours and national park fees add up. Note: altitudes of 3,600–5,000 m — budget 1–2 days to acclimatise and drink plenty of water.

A self-launched 13-day run through Peru and Bolivia covering Lima, Cusco, the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, Rainbow Mountain, Lake Titicaca, Copacabana, Isla del Sol and the Uyuni salt flats with all the lagoons. Instead of a partially-guided group tour with private transfers, you book every piece yourself: local colectivos and tourist buses, the PeruRail/Inca Rail train to Aguas Calientes, shared minivans to trailheads, the official 3-day shared 4x4 Uyuni tour, and the overnight bus across the altiplano. Costs below are realistic backpacker estimates per person in GBP (excluding international flights) and assume dorms or simple private rooms in hostels/guesthouses. Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu tickets sell out months ahead — book at least 3-4 months before you travel.
