Croatia's Dalmatian Coast is one of Europe's most spectacular cycling routes — and you absolutely don't need a guided group tour to experience it. This self-launched version follows the same stunning arc from Split to the Zrmanja Canyon: UNESCO old towns, island ferries, limestone moonscapes on Pag, and the dramatic climb into the Velebit Mountains. You'll rent your own hybrid bike in Split, book local ferries, and stay in budget hotels and guesthouses along the route. Breakfasts are cheap at local bakeries, picnic lunches are easy to assemble from markets, and dinners at traditional konobas cost a fraction of restaurant prices. Expect roughly 34–53 miles per riding day on mostly quiet roads — this is a serious cycling trip, so make sure your legs are ready. The trade-off for going self-launched: no support vehicle and no guide, but significantly more flexibility and savings of around £700–£900 per person.
